Hello, Redhawks!
Here is a quick overview of the slides above:
-Phones should be silent, and in your bag or pocket during class unless I invite you to use it for class or to listen to music while you work.
-Language: my job is to teach you Standard English, so no profanity or slang in class
-Food: it is okay to eat a small, clean snack in class, but please NO SUNFLOWER SEEDS, and no full meals
-Respect for each other, for yourself, and for me is crucial for a safe and productive environment.
-Bathroom: There are (will be) two passes near the door-one for the ladies, the others for the gentlemen. Do not ask me to go. If the pass is there, you can go. Use your best judgment as to when it is the best time and go quietly when you need to.
-Late work: I will not accept ANY late work. Ever. However, if you think you will need more time on an assignment, ask me ahead of time (be professional and have a good reason) and you can get an extension. If you don't like the grade you receive on an assignment, you can always fix/revise the work and turn it back in for a better grade.
-Absence: For every one day of excused absence, you have one day to make up your work. If you miss a quiz or test, you have one week to make it up. Do not ask me about missed work during class or passing periods - find a reliable buddy, come to me at ME Time, or lunch, or check the website!
SAT Word of the Week: Each semester, there will be 16 words. Write a story using these words appropriately, or use the words correctly in a sentence for extra credit (you can do this once at the end of each semester).
I will accept up to five pieces of extra credit IF you do most of your homework and classwork. If you do not turn in your regular work, I will not accept extra credit.
Daily Routine:
While I believe we will have a great year, the following routine will be in place for any offenses during class:
- First offense: Verbal reminder of acceptable behavior
-Second offense: Not excused by the bell (will be held one minute of passing period)
-Third offense: Depending on type of offense, you will either be: a) sent to the hall for a “cooling off” period, b) sent to the office with a referral, c) given a referral and sent out to the hall, or d) given lunch detention.
-Fourth offense: I will call your parents and either discuss your behavior over the phone or request a parent-teacher meeting to discuss your success in my class.
**Extreme disrespect/defiance will result in a student’s removal from class and a referral**
